Mounting Boards 101

What is a Mounting Board?

Placed or attached behind any two-dimensional media (graphics, needlecraft, fabric), a mounting board suspends, supports and displays your media. Almost everyone uses mounting boards: Framers and photographers use mounting boards to provide stiffness to thin media such as posters and photographs so they can be framed and hung for display. Architects, designers and advertisers use mounting boards for presentations of ideas to clients. Retailers use mounting boards to hang in-store and point-of-purchase information. Companies use mounting boards to convey information to employees and customers. People with home computers use mounting boards to mount, preserve and display graphics produced on their color printers — the list is endless.

All mounting substrates have their own particular properties. To find the mounting board that best suits your objectives, it may be helpful to browse the information available on our Mounting Board Comparison Chart. Depending on what you are mounting, and how you wish to display your mounted image or artwork, Pres-On provides a variety of options.
